Globalization 3.0 Targets Pittsburgh

The Primanti Brothers sandwich in Pittsburgh is the starting point for Chris Furrell and Robert Krulwich, hosts of Globalization 3.0, a documentary by American RadioWorks.

In part 1 of this Sunday's, a segment titled The Rustbelt Again? uses Pittsburgh as an example of both the need and the solutions confronting such US cities:

• Reuse of brownsfield sites, like the Homestead Steelworks,
• Replacing industry jobs with new jobs in healthcare, finance, service and high-tech industries,
• Carnegie Mellon's collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh on business incubation,
• Surviving overseas outsourcing,
• The desperate need for immigration--especially in technical workers,
