Whether designing a new app, product, service, medical treatment, or entire educational system, a User Journey Map is a powerful visual tool for collaborative design.
“Quality in a service or product is not what you put into it. It is what the customer gets out of it.” – Peter Drucker
HOST: TVW Board Member & Graphic Facilitator Peter Durand
Background
Journey Maps are an essential part of the design thinking process: They visually represent a user’s path toward completing a goal.
In his work in health care, biomedical informatics, and social enterprise, Peter and his facilitation teams often use Journey Maps as a primary tool for innovation and collaboration.
They are a tool to identify opportunities for improvement, highlight areas where user experience can be supported, and ultimately create better products and services.
About the Workshop
Creating a visual map shows us how the User moves from awareness of a problem or goal through different phases or stages of success.
By understanding the User’s journey, teams can create solutions tailored to the User’s needs, develop detailed user stories, test hypotheses, identify gaps and opportunities, and communicate with various audiences.
This interactive workshop will explore when and how to lead a User Journey Map exercise. We will explore some real-world examples and applications and ask the following questions:
What frameworks might help develop Journey Maps with participants?
What are some common mistakes?
What are different visual tools available?
How have groups used Journey Maps once created?
Please join us and be ready to share your experience and insights as a group.
MATERIALS: A sketchbook, white wall, flipchart, iPad, and simple drawing tools.
